Books for Cambodia
Paul Reynolds, one of our school governors, is a volunteer working with Treak Community Centre in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
"The Treak Community Centre is a Cambodian-run organisation that focusses on empowering the local community through different programmes. They employ local staff who understand the issues present in the area. Their programmes provide new skills and boost self-confidence in order to help individuals take control of their own futures. They offer programmes for children and young people, including English classes, arts & crafts, and IT sessions. Additionally, they offer a Community Support Programme like sewing classes and plastic bricks to help parents and the wider community with sustainable support, including getting them to work at the centre, training them with new skills, and supporting families in the long-term. The goal is to empower individuals to be self-sufficient in the future."
Through Paul, we are hoping to develop a link with the Treak Community Centre over the coming months, one which will benefit our children as well as the children who attend in Cambodia.
Paul is visiting Cambodia later this month, and we would love for him to take out some books as gifts from our children to launch our link with them. As you can imagine, the resources they have are very limited, and any donations make a significant difference to the education they can provide. If you are able to send in a book from home tomorrow that your children have grown out of, we would be extremely grateful. We will then box up any donated books for Paul's trip.
I have spoken to the children about this in an assembly this week and they are very excited about how this link could develop over the coming months. I will keep you informed of how our relationship with Treak develops.
